Act Profile

The Almanacs have been formed due to the success of The Fastbacks. Both bands have a vintage sound that is difficult to find from any other live act in the region.

The Almanacs play all the same songs as The Fastbacks but with a sassy, soulful female vocalist.

Helen comes from a Jazz background the same as Paul from The Fastbacks and both singers have a love of Funk, Soul and Northern Soul. The musicians in both bands have been friends for years, Paul and Helen are actually a couple! Both The Fastbacks bands together are like one big retro family!!

The Almanacs are a themed band that will change the mood of any event. They have had years of experiences in performing at corporate events, festivals, weddings, music venues and various other situations. The band arrive in style with tweed suits, flat caps, vintage equipment, mood setting lighting and a full PA. The recorded music they play in between sets continues the cool vintage vibe so the whole night will see guests being transported to distant time periods when music shaped and influenced the youth of their time, and has continued to do this for generations.

Retro and Vintage has become extremely cool. People like to hear music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, but they also like the familiarity of modern songs that they hear on a regular basis. The Fastback Sister Band merge these two areas of music together in a chic package.

The Almanacs are such a versatile band that they can move seamlessly between genres such as Pop, Soul, Northern Soul, Jazz, Blues, Funk and Ska/Reggae. They are often given requests for first dance songs at weddings and opening songs at corporate openings. These have pushed the band towards dance, drum & bass, folk, country and other genres. They always manage to retain their authentic vintage sound in all these scenarios.

The Almanacs and Fastbacks recently appeared in the film 'Youth' with the likes of Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel. Their version of 'You Got The Love' became the title track of the film and has gained a lot of interest for the band.

Thanks so much for making our wedding just perfect. The band were great and everybody has said how marvellous you were. The Jack Rabbit Slims Twist Contest was the icing on the cake and enjoyed by everyone.

Helen, your version of 'At Last' was amazing and we felt so lucky to have had you perform.

We have, and definitely will recommend you to friends/family and strangers alike for all kinds of occasions and there is talk already of a joint birthday party next July/August for Sofie and myself again at the Pointing Dog and we hope to be able to book you again.
We wish you the best for the future.
