Act Profile

Cactus were formed when Cath Short and Ben Chetwood moved from London to Manchester at the start of 2018. They decided to create "an actually cool function band" and enlisted the help of friend Joe Woolf. Between them they have an eclectic taste in music that they are able to seamlessly blend when they play. Caths soulful jazzy voice sits perfectly on top of Joes looped guitar which makes the sound of 3 extra musicians on stage. All backed up by Ben on drums and percussion who provides bubbling jazzy rhythms to stomping floor filling beats.

The exceptional musicians that make up Cactus are all professionals in their own right. Having worked with the likes of Murra Massa, Bondax, Bearcubs, Elle Watson and many more. Tutoring at well respected music schools in the north of England. And working through their own musical projects. Although (the core trio - Cath, Ben and Joe) all in the early twenty’s they have just under 20 years combined experience working professionally within the music industry.
Dressed to impress, the band are always clad in stylish outfits depending on the venue and situation. If you have a dress code just let us know!

"A really tight unit of superb musicians with a great vocalist . Perfect for both background music and parties with a dancefloor. Nice reliable people and an exceptional sound. "

Rick , Director Live Music Management

"A 3 piece of guitar, female vocalist and drum, hit the nail on the head and provided our event with the perfect live music, really complementing the style of the evening. They set a relaxed and soulful mood with their easy to listen style and repertoire. The singer is a music teacher, knows her stuff and has a beautiful voice.
They were reliable and professional to work with and we received many compliments about the band both on the night and after. We look forward to working with them again in the future and cannot recommend them highly enough."

Juliet Bird , Children of hope (registered Charity)

"Cactus are one of the best bands to grace my stage in the last 5 years. Fact. Cath, as with most great, 'small' singers has a power that belies her size and blows your socks of when you first hear her, combined with a control and vocal range that are truly impressive and a joy to listen to. Her effortlessly cool voice sits perfectly balanced on top of Ben and Joe's backing, and what a sound they make. In 20 odd years in the music industry, I've rarely seen 2 people connect more on stage and be so creative with their instrumentation and arrangements. They make stripped back drums and acoustic guitar feel like you're listening to a 5 piece band, through some of the smoothest, funkiest, most head bobbing-est playing I've seen in a long time. Hugely engaging to watch on stage, they put a smile on every face in the audience without fail. I could watch 'em all night."

Joe McAdam - Manager, JB Events

"We booked Cactus for our Wedding Anniversary and they were AMAZING!Thank you so much you really made it special. Would recommend to anyone looking for live music. These Guys (and lady) are some of the best musicians I've seen in a long time."
