Act Profile

Tonight we're going to party like it's 1979!

Based in Buckinghamshire, five-piece band Huggies has become established as one of the souths funkiest and fun soul / disco bands, performing classics from the legends of the Atlantic soul era, plus 70s funk & disco favourites.

Since forming in 2004 the band has played at a bewildering variety of functions including weddings, anniversary and birthday parties, corporate events and company Christmas parties.

Fronted by an impressive and vivacious female vocalist and backed by a talented team of musicians collaborating to bring you the funkiest soul & disco grooves, the band delivers a quality professional sound and performance every time to ensure that every event is a memorable one. The band tries to bring a party atmosphere to every occasion, dressing in the flamboyant styles of the late seventies and proving especially popular at fancy dress events and seventies theme nights.

Huggies brings you energetic and authentic well-known and well loved disco and soul floorfillers which every age group will know and enjoy. The band is ideal for corporate functions, private parties, wedding receptions, dinner dances or any other event where you want your guests to get down and get funky.

All the musicians in the band have spent years involved in music, and between them have made several records, performed on national tv and radio, and have written and recorded Sony award-winning music for radio, tv and theatre. The band was formed to play the music which they themselves love, with an emphasis on fun for everyone.

This is an amazing group, with a wide ranging style of music and and an ability to switch between songs that raise the roof and keep the dance floor full. With a versatile set, outstanding musicianship, blistering solos and costumes to match, the Huggies live and breathe the 'Motown, Funk and Disco Groove' from start to finish. I have been privileged to watch the Huggies perform at several pubs private functions and the reaction is always the same.... the dance floor is always packed and the crowd are always shouting for more. If you want a cracking night's entertainment, then Huggies are the band for you!

Caught your second set last week. Really impressed with the sound - it was clear and crisp without being too loud, and the musicianship was absolutely top notch from all 4 guys. Vocal harmonies were superb too. Special mention has to go to Pritee who is a truly outstanding vocalist. Thanks for a fun evening!

This was the first time I had seen The Huggies, though I'm sure it won't be the last. Having got underway with a medley of 70's disco classics, the band brought in earlier 60's soul influences. There were even brief diversions into 'the noughties' with the Amy Winehouse version of 'Valerie' and Anastacia's 'I'm Outta Love'.

Having heard so many of the songs at parties and discos, I wondered how a band would go about recreating these songs live. The rhythm section did a great job establishing the disco feel of the songs, which included a masterclass in bass technique. Care had also been taken to get those important sounds right: the funky keyboard into to 'Superstition,' the hot lead guitar of 'Play That Funky Music' and bouncing bass of 'Carwash.'.

The lead singer proved to be the band's secret weapon with a powerful and soulful voice who took control of songs like 'River Deep, Mountain High' and 'Son of a Preacher Man.' One of my favourite songs was 'Piece of My Heart' which was performed with intensity and power.

The Huggies will appeal to anyone who likes a bit of a boogie, a trip down memory lane, or very funky live music.

Whatever Huggies are doing right, other bands should come along and find out. A five piece band with keyboards, the Huggies are a distinct cut above any similar bands that I've ever seen.

I absolutely love the music that they play - it's happy, soulful, up-beat and passionate without being clichd. It's a perfect tonic to anyone in recession-riddled Britain, who, on a Friday night (or any night!) needs a bit of musical relief to transport them away to a Better Place!

-Mac MacLaren

Well it was another Saturday night in Croxley, it was freezing cold and I didn't fancy another night of TV.. What better way, then, to kill those winter blues than by getting into the boogie with The Huggies! From the opening riff of Booker T.'s 'Time Is Tight' they took us on a highly entertaining journey through familiar Motown classics, disco anthems and more.

And it didn't take long for that British reserve to melt! The fairly small club we were in quickly turned into a dancefloor, as the punters punched the air and strutted their stuff. They clearly knew decent music when they heard it. The great thing about a lot of these classics is that they've come around again to a younger generation via The X-Factor ("Signed Sealed Delivered", "I'm Yours"..."Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" etc.), so the Huggies are breaking down the generation gap too!

Covers bands are ten a penny, but let's face it, most of them never really measure up. These guys really show how it should be done. Powerful, soulful lead vocals, intricate lead guitar work (sometimes soloing, sometimes playing rhythm) and a rock-solid rhythm section (bass and drums). They were as tight as... time, a collective human jukebox. Sparkling away in alarmingly attractive stage gear, they crammed in as many songs into their time slot as humanly possible. The emphasis was very much on "havin' a party"... two hours of top entertainment, and the best night out I've had for ages.

-Ant Lupton

Huggies came to Moon River Club at Watermans and absolutely rocked it. But perhaps 'rocked' is the wrong word to use, because the vibe they created was a 'disco inferno' and the crowd went absolutely 'crazy'!

Moon River is a club for people with learning disabilities and has a loyal crowd of 200+ clubbers and they want a good time. So Huggies needed to deliver, and the great thing was that they did. Every song was a crowd-pleaser, well played by excellent musicians, who certainly made 'everybody dance'!

What was also great was that the band were very approachable and friendly and got right into the spirit of the night especially when they became judges in our 70's fancy dress competition.

If you want a band that can really play, has a great singer with charisma and stage presence, are energetic and fun, then this is the band to build your 60's and 70's themed promotion around.

I'm one very satisfied promoter and can thoroughly recommend this act. And the crowd... Well they were just taken 'higher and higher'!

-Frank Hutson

You knew as soon as you saw them get up on stage that it was going to be a great night. Looking the part, Huggies took you back to an era when flares swished as you walked and everyone was having a good time. They got the crowd up dancing straightaway - and they never sat down again. It was like being in one the great London Disco Clubs!

Everyone loved the music - and even if they hadn't been born when the music first hit the charts, everyone knew it. The band they played some great soul and 70's disco music. Among my favourites of the night were Chic's "Le Freak" and Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" and their version of The Trammps "Disco Inferno" was pure genius.

Huggies are a proper, professional group who give a polished performance and you can see they have a great time themselves with their enthusiasm transferring straight to the audience who lap up every minute.

Everyone has asked when are we going to book them again. It certainly won't be long.

Spectacular glittery dance night - you won't get better!
